To read data from the CAT24C01/02/04/08 CMOS Serial EEPROM, you can use Immediate Read or Selective Read operations. Immediate Read: When the Master device sends a Slave address with the R/W bit set to '1', the CAT24Cxx interprets this as a request for data at the current byte address in memory. The device acknowledges the Slave address, shifts out the data at the current address, and waits for the Master to respond. If the Master does not acknowledge the data and follows up with a STOP condition, the CAT24Cxx returns to Standby mode. Selective Read: This operation allows the Master device to choose any memory location for a read operation. The Master device initiates a 'dummy' write operation by sending the START condition and the slave address. Then, the Master device sends a repeated START condition followed by the Slave address with the R/W bit set to '1' to read data from the desired memory location.
