The ISL85003 regulator provides negative current protection by monitoring the current across the low-side MOSFET. When the inductor current reaches -2.2A, the synchronous rectifier is turned off to prevent large reverse currents. It also offers output overvoltage protection triggered when the output voltage exceeds 115% of the set voltage, causing the high-side and low-side MOSFETs to be tri-stated until the output drops back within the regulation band. Additionally, the regulator has input and output overvoltage protection circuitry, limiting current in all on-chip power devices and applying overcurrent limits to the output switching MOSFETs and the LDO linear regulator that feeds VDD. The switching regulator also features overcurrent protection by monitoring current through the internal high-side switching MOSFET and comparing it to a 5A overcurrent limit. If the current exceeds this limit, the high-side MOSFET is immediately turned off. Furthermore, if the low-side MOSFET current exceeds 6A at the end of the cycle, the high-side MOSFET will skip the next cycle to allow the inductor current to decay to a safe level before resuming switching.
