HBCR-1611

The Hewlett-Packard Single Chip Bar Code Decoder IC features support for five industry standard bar code symbologies, automatic code recognition, choice of parallel or full duplex serial ASCII interface, programmability via escape sequences or pin strapping, CMOS technology, through hole and surface mount packages, and audio and visual feedback control. It is designed to decode popular bar code symbologies used in various industries such as government, retail, industrial, and medical markets, including Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, UPC A, E0, E1, EAN/JAN 8, 13, Codabar, and Code 128. The IC allows bidirectional scanning of all bar codes except for UPC/EAN/JAN bar codes with supplemental digits, which must be scanned last. It supports input from hand held digital scanners and slot readers with a maximum scan speed of 30 ips (73 cm/s). The serial port offers flexibility in baud rates, parity, and stop bits, with a "Single Read Mode" for data transmission control. The parallel port requires external components for data and command handshake. Audible and visual feedback options are available, with the ability to configure the tone of the beeper or silence it. The decoder IC operates on a +5 volt DC power supply with a maximum current draw of 24 mA and reduces power consumption in idle mode. Data transmission in the HBCR-1610 series is controlled using the standard XON/XOFF handshake .
