The EL4581C sync separator provides a reliable method of determining the correct sync slice level by setting it to the mid-point between the sync tip and blanking level at the back porch. This 50% level is determined by two internal self-timing sample and hold circuits that track the sync tip and back porch levels .

The purpose of the EL4581C sync separator is to reproduce all the video input sync pulses in the composite sync output, with specific timing details for vertical sync, odd-even field output, and back porch pulse width.

The EL4581 sync separator features include: 1. Composite sync output reproduces all video input sync pulses with a propagation delay . 2. Vertical sync leading edge coincides with the first vertical serration pulse leading edge with a propagation delay . 3. Odd-even output is low for even field and high for odd field . 4. Back porch goes low for a fixed pulse width on the trailing edge of video input sync pulses . 5.
