The CY7C9689A HOTLink Transceiver supports a serial signaling rate range of 50 to 200 MBaud .

The purpose of the Built-In Self-Test (BIST) feature in the CY7C9689A HOTLink Transceiver is to check the entire high-speed serial link at full link-speed without the need for specialized and expensive test equipment. The BIST feature incorporates a Linear Feedback Shift Register (LFSR) to generate a 511-character repeating sequence that is compared character-for-character at the receiver. This allows for the validation of link integrity and ensures the proper functioning of the transmitter and receiver sections of the device. The BIST feature is activated by specific BIST enable inputs for the transmit and receive paths, which are asynchronous and synchronized internally to the device's state machines. When enabled, the BIST feature suspends normal operations, such as Transmit FIFO reads, and generates the repeating BIST sequence for testing purposes. The transmit section of the CY7C9689A HOTLink Transceiver can be configured to accept either 8- or 10-bit data characters on each clock cycle. The data is then stored in an internal synchronous Transmit FIFO. The data is read from the Transmit FIFO and encoded using embedded 4B/5B or 5B/6B encoders to improve its serial transmission characteristics. These encoded characters are serialized, converted to NRZI, and output from two PECL-compatible differential transmission line drivers at a bit-rate of either 10 or 20 times the input reference clock in 8-bit (or 10-bit bypass) mode, or 12 or 24 times the reference clock in 10-bit (or 12-bit bypass) mode. This process ensures efficient data conversion and encoding in the transmit section of the CY7C9689A HOTLink Transceiver.
