SK Hynix’s acquisition of Intel NAND flash memory and most of its storage business has progressed after obtaining approval from the United States, the European Union and South Korea. Recently, this transaction has been approved by the Brazilian antitrust authorities.
In the eyes of Brazil's anti-monopoly regulatory agency, the Brazilian Economic Defense Administrative Committee, this transaction will not cause competition concerns, so the acquisition has been unconditionally approved.
In October 2020, SK Hynix announced the acquisition of Intel NAND flash memory business, the transaction amount will reach 9 billion US dollars.
It is reported that if the transaction is completed, SK Hynix will acquire Intel’s NAND solid-state drive business, NAND flash memory and wafer business, a NAND flash memory manufacturing plant in Dalian, Intel’s intellectual property rights related to the design and manufacture of NAND wafers, R&D personnel, etc. Intel will retain Optane's business with advanced storage technology.
By acquiring Intel’s NAND flash memory and storage business, SK Hynix will surpass Japan’s Kioxia and become the world’s second largest NAND flash memory manufacturer after Samsung, and will narrow the gap with Samsung.
At present, although the transaction has been approved by the anti-monopoly regulatory authorities of the United States, the European Union, South Korea, and Brazil, it still needs to be approved by the United Kingdom, Singapore and other countries.
