The news was revealed by Septian Hario Seto, Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment Coordination Department of Indonesia. He said that the lithium battery factory will be put into operation in 2024.

In addition, he also said that CATL has signed an agreement with Indonesia's PT Aneka Tambang, which requires CATL to ensure that 60% of nickel is processed and produced in Indonesia into batteries. Nickel is a key material for the production of electric vehicle batteries, and Indonesia is eager to develop a complete nickel supply chain in the country, especially to refine battery chemicals, manufacture batteries, and ultimately manufacture electric vehicles.

It is reported that the country seems interested in becoming Tesla's nickel supply partner. In a statement last Saturday, the Indonesian government stated that Tesla will send a team of representatives to Indonesia in January next year to explore the possibility of establishing a supply chain partnership. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been expressing Tesla's need for large-scale metal sources.

Ningde Times was established in 2011 and is headquartered in Ningde, Fujian. It is a lithium-ion battery R&D and manufacturing company. It focuses on the research and development, production and sales of new energy vehicle power battery systems and energy storage systems, and is committed to providing first-class solutions for global new energy applications .

The company has received widespread attention for reaching an agreement with Tesla. In February of this year, Tesla and CATL signed a two-year contract (from July 2020 to June 2022). According to the contract, CATL will supply batteries for the Model 3 produced by Tesla in Shanghai. The company's first overseas factory is located in Erfurt, Thuringia, Germany and is currently under construction. After completion, the plant will become the largest lithium battery plant in Germany and is expected to be put into operation in early 2022.
