The NCP1250 controller handles Over Power Protection (OPP) by activating the peak current limit, asserting an error flag, and starting a timer. If the timer completes while the error flag is still present, the controller stops the pulses and enters a latch-off phase, operating in a low-frequency burst mode. Once the fault is cleared, the SMPS resumes operation. Some versions offer an auto-recovery mode, while others latch off in case of a short circuit. The controller also includes an OVP input that can sense an overvoltage condition on the adapter, causing the circuit to permanently latch off until the user disconnects the power source.
