The NCP10 achieves excellent efficiency at light loads by skipping unneeded switching cycles, which drastically reduces the power wasted during light load conditions. This feature allows the NCP10 to decrease standby power to extremely low levels, with typical measurements showing results below 80 mW at 230 Vac for a typical 7.0 W universal power supply

The purpose of the NCP10 series is to offer a complete current-mode control solution together with a high-voltage power MOSFET in a monolithic structure for building a rugged and low-cost Switch-Mode Power Supply (SMPS) featuring low standby power. The series integrates everything needed for this purpose and offers differences between references mainly in peak current setpoints and operating frequency. Additionally, the NCP10 series allows for Dynamic Self-Supply (DSS) which simplifies transformer design and ensures better control of the SMPS in difficult output conditions. An auxiliary winding can also be connected for improved standby performance.

The NCP10 switches at different frequencies depending on the version: - 65 kHz Version: 59 kHz to 71 kHz - 100 kHz Version: 90 kHz to 110 kHz - 130 kHz Version: 117 kHz to 143 kHz Therefore, the available frequencies at which the NCP10 switches during nominal load operation are 65 kHz, 100 kHz, and 130 kHz.
