On February 22, according to foreign media reports, due to tight supply, major chip manufacturers including Qualcomm and MediaTek have placed additional BT substrate orders from Taiwan’s IC substrate manufacturers to meet the growing demand.

In the past few years, Qualcomm has launched a relatively rich 5G product portfolio, including baseband chips, mobile platforms and antenna modules. The company’s modems are used in most high-end 5G mobile phones on the market. Moreover, the company has been expanding its processors to cheaper devices, all in order to promote 5G globally as soon as possible.

Foreign media said that Qualcomm and MediaTek are competing for orders from Chinese mobile phone brands including Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo, because these brands have been keen on 5G solutions.

Nowadays, most Chinese first-tier manufacturers rely on Qualcomm and MediaTek processors, but this situation may soon change, because they are now facing competition from Samsung.

According to reports, after supplying Exynos980 and 880 to vivo in early 2020, Samsung hopes to provide its Exynos chip technology to third-party mobile phone brands including Xiaomi and OPPO.
