The Trump administration's suppression of Chinese companies, which has been in office for less than a week, has not stopped! According to an exclusive source from Reuters, the US government on the 14th included 9 Chinese companies on the blacklist of so-called "relevant to the Chinese military", including mobile phone manufacturer Xiaomi and aircraft manufacturer COMAC.

According to Reuters, according to the relevant investment ban, US investors need to sell their shares in "blacklisted" companies before November 11 this year. Also on the 14th, the US Department of Commerce included CNOOC on the list of entities and listed Beijing Tianjiao (Skyrizon) on the list of "military end users" on the grounds that they were suspected of endangering "national security." Reuters commented that the Trump administration continues to expand the investment ban "blacklist" in order to consolidate its tough "political heritage" against China in the last few days of its term. Up to now, 35 companies including SMIC and CNOOC have Enterprise in the list.

US President Trump signed an administrative ban in November last year, banning the list of (Chinese) companies he identified as owned or controlled by the Chinese military on the grounds of national security and prohibiting Americans from investing in the securities of these Chinese companies. On December 29 last year, the U.S. Treasury Department also explicitly included the "subsidiaries", related ETF funds, and index funds in the blacklist into the scope of the ban, further expanding the scope of the ban.

On Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal quoted sources as reporting that Alibaba, Tencent, and Baidu have escaped. The US government will weigh the relationship between China’s Internet giants and the Chinese military and the potential impact of the ban on investment on the economy. Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu will not be blacklisted.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said in response to relevant questions on the 14th that China’s position on relevant issues is consistent and clear. The Chinese government has always encouraged Chinese enterprises to carry out foreign economic cooperation in accordance with market principles, international rules, and laws and regulations. What we are opposed to is the politicization of economic and trade issues, the abuse of national power, the generalization of the concept of national security, and the unprovoked suppression of foreign companies. The United States should earnestly respect the principles of market economy and fair competition, abide by international economic and trade rules, and provide an open, fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment for companies from various countries, including Chinese companies, to invest and operate in the United States.
