Micron Insight — Micron Technology Inc. recently announced a new Solid State Drive (SSD) that further expands the Micron hard drive portfolio to help consumer and enterprise customers store world data. The new Micron® 7300 NVMe Series and Micron® 5300 SATA Series SSDs enable organizations to modernize, economical and maximize data center ROI.

In order to meet consumer demand for mobile, Micron also announced its formal entry into the consumer portable SSD market with the launch of the Crucial® X8 Portable Solid State Drive.

"We are pleased to introduce these new products, mainstream NVMe SSDs for data centers and portable SSDs for consumers, which will greatly expand our target market. At the same time, we are strengthening our leading position in enterprise-class SATA solid-state drives," said Sumit Sadana, executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Micron Technology. "Micron's growing portfolio of high-value storage solutions is based on industry-leading 3D NAND technology, which offers customers a wide range of options to meet the growing demand for data storage."

Analysis company IDC predicts that global data will increase from 33ZB in 2018 to 175ZB in 2025. Data centers will need high-performance enterprise-class hard drives that need to withstand heavy workloads to ensure faster access to data. At the same time, the ever-increasing volume of data has increased the average capacity of enterprise and consumer hard drives. The new SSD delivers Micron's promise to deliver differentiated data storage solutions for all segments and needs from consumer to cloud.

Micron 7300 NVMe Series SSD

Micron 7300 NVMe Series SSDs are designed for workloads that require high throughput and low latency. They are ideal for common hybrid read, write, compute, and virtualization tasks such as SQL and NoSQL, hyper-aggregate infrastructure, and compute-centric cloud platforms. The use of 96-layer 3D TLC NAND technology enables cost and power efficiency while providing hard drive end-to-end data path protection, power-down protection, secure firmware and instant secure erase.

The 7300 NVMe Series offers a variety of exterior sizes, capacities and durability levels. These drives will begin to be ordered in December 2019. The 7300 Series hard drives complement Micron's existing data center portfolio, including the high-performance 9300 NVMe SSD announced earlier this year.

Micron 5300 SATA Series SSD

New Micron 5300 SATA SSDs enable companies to expand their infrastructure investments by upgrading their data centers with next-generation SATA drives. The Micron 5300 SSD is the industry's first 96-layer 3D TLC enterprise SATA hard drive for added security. The new SSDs are optimized for read-intensive and versatile workloads while providing 50% higher reliability than the SATA hard drive industry average. 5300 SATA Series SSDs range in capacity from 240GB to 7.68TB

In order to upgrade memory and storage, Micron's industry-leading consumer brands launched the Crucial X8 Portable SSD to cater to consumers' ever-expanding storage space. Demand, these consumers need to get more photos than ever before, play larger stand-alone games and computer games.

The Crucial X8 Portable SSD with its lightweight casing delivers impressive performance. The SSD has a read speed of 1,050MB/s, which is 1.8 times faster than the same type of portable SSD at the same price point and 7.5 times faster than a portable hard drive. The Crucial X8 is compatible with a wide range of devices including PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox One, iPad Pro, Chromebook and some Android devices.

The accredited Crucial SSD has undergone thousands of hours of pre-launch verification and extensive SSD specification testing before launching the market. The drive is fall-proof and can be up to 7.5 feet. The Crucial X8 offers a three-year limited warranty with a capacity of up to 1TB and can be purchased through crucial.com and Crucial's global partners.
