The high voltage switching in the CPC7601 integrated circuit is controlled via low voltage CMOS logic level inputs for direct connectivity to the system controller. Switch manipulation is managed by a 16-bit serial to parallel shift register whose outputs are buffered and stored by a 16-bit transparent latch. Level shifters buffer the latch outputs and operate the high voltage switches. The switch states follow the inputs from the shift register, and LE is overridden by CL, which clears the latches regardless of LE's state. Holding LE active while clocking in new data will cause the outputs to toggle with the shifting data. The high-voltage output switches are turned on and off in response to data sent into the latches from the shift register: "0" turns a switch OFF, "1" turns a switch ON.
